Lawrence "Larry" Patrick Delaney, 73, passed away in
Fredericksburg, VA on Saturday, March 1, 2025, following a valiant fight against cardiac amyloidosis. Larry was the son of the late Mary Clare and John A. Delaney of Ebensburg, PA.
Larry was a self-taught professional architect registered in the Commonwealths of Pennsylvania and Virginia. He was mentored by Mr. Herman G. Pietrolungo, AIA, starting at the age of 18 and then pursued a career in federal service holding prominent civilian positions with the US Government Printing Office, US Marine Corps, US Navy, Architect of the Capitol, and the US Army Corps of Engineers. He loved to tell the story that his first design project was an outhouse at Duman Park, Cambria County, PA and his final design management effort was the $1 Billion Ft. Belvoir Hospital, VA. He retired in 2010.
Nearly inseparable from the time they started dating in 1972, Larry and Maryann greatly enjoyed their Westies, golf, swimming, food, wine, and friends, especially those he kept from childhood.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Maryann (Klezek) Delaney; sister-in-law Lynda Delaney of York, PA; nieces and nephews Kathleen Rosado of Greenville, SC, Jill M. Corrigan (Don) of Middleburg, FL, John Delaney (Leslie) of Seven Valleys, PA, Robert P. Delaney (Helena) of Flager Beach, FL, and Eileen M. Curley (Kevin) of Hershey, PA; great-nieces and -nephews Patrick Curley (Godson), Johnny Delaney, Shannon Delaney, Tori Wilt (John), Natalie Bishop, and Reuben Rosado; sisters-in-law Gloria O'Flinn of
Fredericksburg, VA and Sandy Unger (Bob) of Johnstown, PA; and brother-in-law Stanley Klezek (Jana) of Ebensburg, PA and their children, Meghan (Clinton) Leonard (Goddaughter), Kelly O'Flinn, Anthony Unger (Samantha), Wade Klezek (Jill), and Julie (Clinton) Gochnour (Goddaughter).
He was preceded in death by his sister Joan of Garvey Manor, Hollidaysburg, PA; and brother John "Jack" of College Park, MD.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 17, 2025, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church vestibule. Interment will take place on a date to be determined in Holy Name Roman Catholic Church Mausoleum, Ebensburg, PA. Honorary Pall Bearers are Donn Hall, Earl Payne, Don Corrigan, Kevin Curley, Steve Hanson, Robert Delaney, Stanley Klezek, and Bernie Tirabassi.
