Lawrence Freyberger Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" Freyberger, age 82, died October 11, 2025 at Prelude Homes and Services in White Bear Lake. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 21st at Strike Life Tributes in Isanti. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Spring Valley Cemetery.

Lawrence "Larry" Freyberger was born January 19, 1943 in Minneapolis, MN to Ernest and Dorothy (Reynolds) Freyberger. Larry was raised in Columbia Heights, where he lived until he joined the army in 1962 and served most of his tour of duty in Germany. Upon discharge, he came back stateside and within two years married Judy Miller. He bought an Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips and he worked steadily at building his business, ultimately owning 21 restaurants in a four-state area. During this time, he and Judy had two children, Tom and LeAnn. Although Larry ultimately lost his franchises when Arthur Treacher's had an economic downturn, Larry continued to work in the restaurant business his entire life.

Larry's wife Judy passed away in 1990. Four years later, after marrying Barbara (Voltz) Morgan, Larry and Barb had a daughter, Frankie. Soon thereafter, they moved to Marshalltown, IA, where he managed his brother's McDonald's restaurant. In 1999, Barb passed away from cancer.

After retirement from McDonald's in 2016, Larry got remarried to Kay Bukatz. They enjoyed traveling in their RV to Texas in the winter and to northern Minnesota fishing in the summers. In 2020, after settling into senior living, due to both Larry and Kay's health issues, Kay passed away in November of the same year. Larry continued to live in assisted living and memory care until he passed away on October 11, 2025 with his family by his side.

Larry enjoyed pheasant hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and motorcycle rides. He was known for his boisterous jokes and stories, and blaring Hank Williams, Sr. from his boat. When not outdoors, Larry enjoyed following football, watching baseball and hockey, and twirling the ladies around the dancefloor. Mostly, he loved his family and made particular effort to stay in touch with friends, old and new. Whatever he set out to do, he did with great zeal.

Larry is survived by his sister Kathy Morrow; sister Terri (EJ) Torres; his son Tom (Karen) Freyberger; daughter Frankie Freyberger (Eugene Martin); and grandchildren MiKayla Freyberger (Darrin Kwallek), Josephine Freyberger, Ladan Freyberger, Abraham Freyberger, Jacob Freyberger, Elizabeth Freyberger, Jax Martin; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents; wives Judy, Barb and Kay; daughter LeAnn Freyberger, brother Jim Freyberger, brother John Freyberger, sister Sandy Grabow, and sister Joannie Freyberger.
