Lester Harlan Matcham, 92, passed away on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at University Hospital Elyria. The son of the late Forrest S. and Lena E. (Coates) Matcham, Lester was born on June 1, 1933, in Oberlin.
Lester grew up in Brighton and graduated from Brighton High School. He proudly served in the Army from 1953 to 1955. In 1957 he made his home in Camden Township. A milkman, Lester worked for Parsons Dairy and then Smith Dairy.
He was a faithful member of the Brighton United Methodist Church, the Amherst Eagles and the Waverly Hunt Club in Wakeman. Lester was an avid outdoors man and loved hunting, fishing. He also enjoyed camping and watching drag racing at Dragway 42.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Carol (Lang) Matcham; children, Ron (Mary Anne), of Homerville, Diane (Wayne) Willcocks, of Mt. Gilead; son-in-law, Denny Smith, of SC; 7 grandchildren, Norma, Reena, Zach (Ali), Danny, Kyle, Brendan, Nick (Paige) and 7 great grandchildren. Lester is also survived by his siblings, Paul Matcham and Linda Marley; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Matcham; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Smith; siblings, Forrest Jr, Dale (Shirley) and Robert Matcham Louise Anderson and Laura (Russell) Sooy; and brother-in-law, Tony Marley.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, October 21 from 4-6 p.m. at the Brighton United Methodist Church, 51011 State Route 18, Brighton. A funeral service will follow at 6 p.m.with Pastor Ruth Roth officiating. A private burial will be held at Camden Township Cemetery.
