Burlington - Elizabeth Cardoso Whitaker-Freitas, of Monkton, born on May 12, 1973, in Pawtucket, RI, to Joaquim Jesus Freitas and Maria Alice Freitas (Cardoso), passed away peacefully with family surrounding her on February 29, 2024, at the University of Vermont Medical Center.
A tech industry professional with a Masters Degree in business administration, Liz was a loving wife to Erin Whitaker-Freitas and a caring mother to her children Alex and Mariana. She cherished her family and exploring the world with them through travel, especially to Portugal. Liz’s travel gave her the opportunity to experience lots of amazing food from lots of different places. Her passion for good food and coffee encouraged her to create lots of amazing meals to share with her family.
Liz was also an experienced advocate for diversity and equality, using her platform to raise awareness and to inspire positive change in the tech industry. Known for her mentorship, she guided newcomers through their career journeys and left a lasting positive impact on those she encountered.
She is survived by her wife, Erin L. Whitaker-Freitas; children, Alex A. Whitaker-Freitas (pronouns: ey/em) and Mariana L. Whitaker-Freitas (pronouns: she/her).
Liz is predeceased by her mother, Maria A. Freitas.
Liz’s family will hold a private ceremony in memory of Liz's life and legacy at the Minor Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Milton, VT, on Sunday,March 10, 2024. A public celebration of Liz’s life will be held later this year, time and place to be determined.
