After college, she worked several years for the State of California as a counselor at the Youth Opportunity Center, helping disadvantaged teenagers and young adults find work and develop meaningful skills.
Lois later moved to the private sector, joining the HR Dept at Foodmaker Inc. where she was involved with development and implementation of training programs for the fast food business. She then took those same skills to the HR Department of Trusthouse Forte, the owners of Travel Lodge Hotels Inc.
Lois then joined the staff at the San Diego Community College District where she wrote training manuals for many of the district's trade programs. She became the Manager of Workforce Development for the SDCCD, which included management of grant writing and further workforce training activities as well as research, design and development of education programs and specialized teaching methods.
Following her graduation, Lois stayed active with the SDSU Alumni Association. She served as the President of the SDSU Alumni Association, the President of the SDSU College of Arts & Letters Alumni Chapter, and in 2003 received the SDSU Monty Award for Distinguished Alumni Service. When not organizing or fund-raising for the Alumni, she could always be found tailgating at Aztec football games.
