Lorrie Mary LaBauve, a dear sister and friend, passed into the loving embrace of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 29, 2024. Lorrie, 90, was born on May 12, 1934 to Clegg J. and Lillia (Dennison) LaBauve in New Iberia, Louisiana. She is predeceased by her parents and brothers, Marnell LaBauve and C.J. LaBauve. Survivors include brother, Dennison LaBauve (Erna); many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; and her canine companion of 12 years, Andy, her beloved Yorkipoo.
Lorrie will be greatly missed by many who were privileged to share a part of her life. In later years, as she became homebound with various health challenges, she turned to prayer for her family and friends, remembering them in her daily Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy.
From childhood and throughout her adult life, Lorrie had a great love of animals domestic and wild. You could always find a couple of cats and dogs in residence and each week she provided food for her squirrels, raccoons, possums and birds that frequented the Lorrie backyard buffet. She enjoyed riding her horse into her 70s.
Lorrie was a graduate of Southern Louisiana University with a major in music. She continued her education with post-graduate work at Wichita State University and in France. She moved to Wichita to teach elementary vocal music in USD 259 and to perform with The Wichita Symphony and The Crown Heights Dinner Theater Trio, among several groups with which she played over the years. She shared her Cajun cooking skills with many and enjoyed having Sherlock Holmes teas from time to time with friends. Lorrie traveled extensively in Europe and in Mexico and Central America, where she was particularly interested in exploring the Mayan, Inca and Aztec archeological sites.
She was a prolific reader and especially enjoyed history, biography, mystery and music. She frequented antique shows and had many reference books for that purpose. A great cook, Lorrie also had an extensive collection of recipe books.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church - Chapel, with burial at Ascension Cemetery, Bel Aire.
