Harlan Holcomb Obituary

Harlan M. Holcomb, age 78, of Dagsboro, DE, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, surrounded by his devoted friends and private caregiver.

Born on March 25, 1947, in Hernshaw, WV, he was the son of the late Carl D. Holcomb and Maggie (Layman) Holcomb.

A 1965 graduate of East Bank High School in East Bank, WV, Harlan went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969 during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he earned a bachelor's degree from Eastern Connecticut State University, where he met the love of his life, Marjorie Bailey. The two were married on July 8, 1967.

Harlan's professional background was in electrical work, and he held various positions throughout his career at companies such as DuPont, Solo Cup, and the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He later transitioned into public service and retired as a rural mail carrier with the United States Postal Service.

An avid outdoorsman, Harlan found joy in traveling, boating, fishing, crabbing, clamming, and golfing. He also cherished time spent with friends-especially over a cold beer. He will be remembered for his infectious laugh, sharp sense of humor, unwavering integrity, and his generous spirit-always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

In addition to his parents and beloved wife Louise, Harlan was preceded in death by his nephew, Ted W. Bennett, whom he raised as a son, and two siblings, Jack Holcomb and Bonnie Holcomb.

He is survived by his niece, Rachel E. Bennett, whom he raised as a daughter; his two grandchildren, Bryson W. Driver and Brooke L.P. Bennett; two brothers, Kenneth Holcomb and Harry Holcomb; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Harlan's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at Mason Dixon VFW Post #7234, 29265 Marshy Hope Way, Ocean View, DE 19970.

Interment will be private.
