Lucille Hanusch Roark, 90 of Travis, died Tuesday, December 31, 2024 at her residence. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in Salem Lutheran Church near Barclay. Rev. Terry Atkins will officiate. Burial will follow in Barclay Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud.
Lucille was born on November 7, 1934 in Barclay to Walter and Kathleen Stock Hanusch. She graduated from Rosebud High School in 1952. She went to work as a bookkeeper for a bank in Temple. In 1954 Lucille and her sister Sophie Hanusch played on a sponsored basketball team in Temple. They went to State and finished in 3rd place. She married Jesse Max Roark in 1965 and they moved to Houston where they owned a mobile home company. After Jesse’s retirement in 1993, they moved to Travis and Lucille returned to work in a Temple bank. Later she went to work for First State Bank in Marlin and she retired after a 67 year working career.
She loved sports. Her favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Oilers, Houston Texans, Texas Rangers and the Houston Astros.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Douglas Ray Roark, two sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by two sons, Randle Greg Roark of Waco and Bryan Keith Roark of Travis, one brother, Leroy Hanusch and wife Ruth of Temple, two sisters, Bernice Hutka and Sophie Sodek both of Temple, 9 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers memorials may to made to Salem Lutheran Church Relay For Life or Salem Lutheran Church Barbeque fund raiser.
A pot luck lunch will be served at the Barclay Community Center following the cemetery service.
