Margaret "Peggy" McIlhenney
Surrounded by her loving family in her final days, Margaret "Peggy" McIlhenney, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and devoted friend, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024, at the age of 91.
Born on July 1, 1933, in Southwest Philadelphia, Peggy was known for her boundless compassion, resilience, and unwavering commitment to family. She dedicated her life to creating a home filled with love, laughter, and open arms. As a young woman, Peggy welcomed not only her seven children but also two foster children, Yvonne and John, nurturing each of them with a mother's care and steadfast devotion.
Peggy worked as a certified nursing assistant at Cobbs Creek Nursing Home for over 20 years, serving her community with the same dedication she gave to her family. Her compassion extended beyond her home, touching the lives of countless others with her gentle hands and listening heart.
She was preceded in death by her beloved children, Julie, Margaret, Edward, and Walter, and by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Peggy is survived by her children, Eileen Smith (David), Daniel McIlhenney (Jan), and Theresa Fulkersin (Donald), as well as her 25 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Her legacy of love and unwavering strength will live on in each of them, her spirit woven into the fabric of the family she cherished so deeply.
A private funeral service will be held for close family. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to Peggy's heart.
Peggy will be profoundly missed, but her memory will be forever cherished. Her love will live on, a guiding light to all who had the privilege of knowing her, and her spirit will forever be carried forward in the hearts of those she held dear.
