Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Covenant HealthCare – Cooper, with her family at her side; at the age of 79 years.
The daughter of the late Justo and Consuleo (Hurtado) Rodriguez, Maria was born on April 1, 1944, in Torreón, Coahuila, Mexico. Maria married John Anthony “Tony” Castillo on May 1, 1966; he preceded her in death on March 19, 2007. She worked at Gase Baking for many years of loyal and dedicated service. Maria later opened a bridal shop, Maria’s Bridal and Gift, in Sheilds, Michigan. She was an active member of Radiant Church of God, and a former member of Harvest Assembly of God. Maria enjoyed crafting, especially crocheting, and maintaing her yard. Above all, Maria cherished the time spent with her family and loved ones.
Surviving is her son: John Anthony “Tony” (Kimberly) Castillo, II; grandsons: John Anthony “Tony” Castillo, III, David Michael Castillo; Great-Grandchildren: Thomas James, Sansa Bianca, Bellamy Oliver; many brothers and sisters; very dear friends: Lupe Gomez, Tony and Mary Medel and family, Br. and Sr. Ortega and family. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends, as Maria had countless special friends, too numerous to list but held closely to our hearts. Besides her husband and her parents, Maria was preceded in death by her daughter: Michelle DeLynn Castillo.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Caroline and Rick Garcia, Manuel “Hammer” Rodriguez, and Alisha Crowell, for their kind and compassionate care of Maria.
