Maria Martinez Obituary
Maria grew up in the Rainbow community with her father working in the mercury mines. She lived in Imperial working in the fields and later move to Kermit where she ran a grocery store for many years. She was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Maria was very active in the Catholic Church, and a hard worker. She enjoyed working in her garden and taking care of her home. Her family will miss her excellent cooking and her skills as a handywoman. Maria was known by the special nickname of "Chaya" to her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Ramon Martinez; parents: Nasario and Santos Aguirre; brothers: Winslow Aguirre and Camilo Aguirre; sister: Hermenia Salas; son: Ezequiel Martinez, and grandson: Marc Martinez.
Mary is survived by her son: David Martinez and wife Marcela of Kermit, TX; daughter: Elisa Briones and husband Carlos of Kermit, TX; grandchildren: Sammy Briones and wife Teresa, Sophia Arellanes, Carlos Briones Jr. and wife Susie, Bertha Aguirre, Arturo Briones and wife Graciela, Anna Eskridge and husband Roger, Danny Martinez, and Debbie Sullivan; great-grandchildren: Lynette, Desmond, Caleb, Marissa, Dallas, Megan, Gabrielle, Christopher, Adrian, Jennifer, Christian, Brian, Lysette, Devin, Taelor, Zac, Isaac, and Jesse; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
A rosary will take place on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 7:00 pm at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at 2:00 pm at St. Thomas/St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kermit. Burial will follow at the Kermit Cemetery. Pallbearers will include: Caleb Briones, Art Briones, Danny Martinez, Chad Maxwell, Freddie Carrasco, and Ruben Ramirez. Honorary Pallbearer will be: David Martinez.
Arrangements are entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor and condolences may be sent to the family at www.fs-fp.com.
