Maria Cecilia Rico, 60, of Southwest City, Missouri, a cherished wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, after a valiant battle with cancer. She entered this life on January 8, 1964, in Tarimoro, Guanajuato, Mexico, one of twelve daughters born to the late Emilio and Guadalupe (Canelo) Alvarez.
Maria's journey brought her from the vibrant culture of Mexico to the heart of Southwest City, Missouri, in 1996. She was a dedicated employee at Simmons for over twenty-four years, where her work ethic and friendly demeanor were appreciated by all who worked alongside her. Maria retired in 2022.
A member of the Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Noel, Missouri, Maria's faith was a cornerstone of her life. She found solace and strength in her church community, and her involvement brought her great joy and comfort, especially during her courageous fight against cancer.
Maria's passion for life was matched by her love for soccer. She was an avid fan, and her enthusiasm for the game was infectious. Her other pleasures included watching movies and, most notably, cooking for her family. Maria's kitchen was a place of gathering, laughter, and the creation of cherished memories. Her culinary skills and the love she poured into her dishes will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of tasting her cooking.
She is survived by her husband, Jose Rico; two daughters, Yvette Rico and Elizabeth Rico; nine sisters, Yolanda, Veronica, Marina, Guadalupe, Alma, Maricruz, Analilia, Emilia, Nohemi; one brother, Emilio Tadeo; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Carmela.
The family will start receiving friends on Friday, October 25, 2024 beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Noel, Missouri. Graveside services will follow on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Southwest City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Missouri.
