It is with heavy hearts that the family of Maria Gertrudes Evora Rocha (Maria Tuda), age 88, announces her passing on 09/21/2025 surrounded by loved ones.

Born in Sao Vicente-Cabo Verde. Maria Tuda embodied the true meaning of hard work, sacrifice, and love. A woman of the people, she dedicated her life not only to her family but also to the Cape Verdean community. She made it her mission to help countless others from her beloved Cabo Verde begin new lives. Her home was always open, a place of safety and comfort for those seeking shelter, guidance, and the opportunity to establish themselves in a new country.

Her generosity and resilience will be forever remembered by all who were touched by her kindness.

Maria Tuda was the proud matriarch of a large and loving family. She is survived by her eleven children: Carlos Rocha, Maria Alice Rocha, Fernanda Rocha, Manuela Rocha, Alcides Rocha, John Rocha, Anildo Rocha, Alcinda Rocha, Raquel Rocha, Irondina Rocha and Rui Rocha.

She also leaves behind a legacy of 36 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Along with a slew of friends and family.

She will be forever missed, and her feisty personality will never be forgotten.

The family welcomes all who knew and loved her to join in celebrating her remarkable life.
