Marie Gail Smith, beloved daughter of James Ray Smith and Rosetta Smith (& David Robinson), departed this life peacefully at Self Regional Medical Center, Greenwood, SC on Tuesday, September 25, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., following a brief illness.

Gail was born August 22, 1961 in Aiken County, South Carolina. She attended public schools in Aiken County, South Carolina.

Gail was a longtime resident of Johnston, South Carolina and a beloved member of the community.

She was a dedicated funny and hard-working lady who had a outgoing personality and loved her family. She was known for her strong work ethic, kind heart, and love for her family and friends. If she could help others she did not hesitate to do so. She touched many lives with her generosity and quiet strength.

Gail leaves to love honor and cherish her memory, three children, Lakeisha Smith, Piedmont, SC, James Smith of the home, and Michael Smith, Columbia, SC. She also leaves nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a niece, Felicia Smith; three aunts, Betty Ann (Cornell) Brunson, Lillie Mae Green and Loretta Gray; three uncles, Joseph Smith, Albert Smith and George Smith; her sister, Rosa (Ben) Moton, and several friends, Sarah Williams, Mattie Phillips, Beranda Smith and Margaret Bussey. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Willie James Smith, along with a grandchild, and several aunts and uncles.
