Marie Hedrick Storey passed away Thursday, 12/26/24, after 96 years of a full and rewarding life. Marie lived the past 15 years at Laurel Lake in
Hudson, OH. She was a faith-based, humble, and kind soul. Marie was preceded in death in 2017 by her husband, Rollyn Storey, of 68 years. She is survived by her three children Lloyd Storey (Mary Ellen) of Marietta, GA, Suzanne Kanzleiter (Richard) of Aurora, OH/Naples, FL and Mark Storey (Alicia) of Aurora, OH/Naples, FL, seven adoring grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
Marie was born August 31, 1928 in Wyandotte, MI and was raised in the Detroit area, during the challenge of the depression. After graduating from Wayne High School, she attended the University of Michigan on scholarship. There she met her husband on a blind date. She received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1950.
Marie was a wonderful, supportive, and exemplary mother and enjoyed part time work as a library secretary and later, for many years, as a church secretary. Retirement years were busy on Cape Cod, MA and winters at the Glades Golf and Country Club in Naples, FL. She was a prolific knitter, excellent bridge player, and enjoyed all sports, especially playing tennis and golf. She also was an avid home-town professional sports team supporter. Marie is known to have achieved the first hole-in-one on Laurel Lake's golf course. Her altruistic spirit was shown through her knitting projects that supported her P.E.O. chapters and the annual Laurel Lake holiday cap program.
Marie's faith was unwavering and strong until her last day. She befriended church members and pastors alike. Marie was an active member at the Rockport (OH), Valhalla (NY), Eastham (MA) and Hudson (OH) United Methodist churches. She especially enjoyed family visits - celebrating graduations, marriages, and births. She and her husband had groups of life-long friends with whom they worked hard to get together each and every year. She enjoyed playing card games, board games, and athletic games with the grandchildren.
Any memorial donations should be sent to the Hudson United Methodist Church or a local P.E.O. (Philanthropic Education Organization) chapter.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, January 10, 2025 at 3:00 PM, at the Hudson United Methodist Church. All are welcome to attend. Burial will take place Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 10:30 AM, at Tew Cemetery in Townsend Township, OH.
