Marilyn Flynn (née Peirce), died peacefully in her sleep on October 11, 2024. Born on August 17, 1930, at Mt. Hope Hospital in Dighton, Massachusetts to Wilmarth (d. 1972) and Gladys (née Hulsizer, d. 1941) Peirce, Marilyn was married to John W. "Jack" Flynn (d. 2008) for over 50 years. Together they raised 7 children: Patricia Mary (Roger), Michael Gerald (Susan), John Joseph (Elizabeth), Paul James (Marianne), Jeffrey Edmund (Wendy), Stephen Wilmarth (Bonnie), and Carilyn Elizabeth (proud "childless cat lady"). Marilyn was Nana/Grammie to 28 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Marilyn had a full life of 94 years, starting her education at Bliss School in Attleboro, MA, continuing at Brockton High School, and finishing as President of the senior class at Sturdy Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1952. Marilyn was voted "most popular" in her Brockton High School senior class where she was also a cheerleader and captain of their six-on-six girls basketball team. Marilyn worked as a surgical nurse after graduating from Sturdy Memorial Hospital as an R.N., thereafter working at Goddard Hospital in Brockton and part-time at Rogers Nursing Home while tending to her growing family. Marilyn and Jack started Flynn Landscape Service in the 1960s, and she tended "The Garden Shop" selling flowers and shrubs on their property on East Bacon Street in Plainville. During the Christmas season, Marilyn crafted wreaths and decorations to augment Christmas tree sales. In the 1970s, Marilyn and Jack started Jack Flynn & Sons roofing and flooring which was passed down to their son Paul when they retired. Marilyn was a woman of faith, attending St. Martha's Church, singing in the church choir in the 60s and 70s, and helping organize the church Minstrel Show for several years. She and Jack attended Cursillo Retreats at LaSalette Shrine in the 1960s and were enriched by the Cursillo movement for over a decade. Marilyn was a talented singer, artist, and writer, but among her many talents was counseling and advice. She spent countless hours on the landline telephone listening and dispensing advice to friends and relatives in need. Marilyn was a loving and involved grandmother of 28, attending games, plays, and shows involving members of her brood. Marilyn lived for 66 years on East Bacon Street in Plainville, and, in her last few years, delighted caregivers with her kindness and easy-to-please nature. In 2023, she moved to Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham, and the Flynn Family thanks all of her East Bacon Street and Maples caregivers for keeping her safe and happy until her dying day.
