On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, Marilyn Callis Owens of Redart, Virginia, reunited with family and friends who left this earth before her. She was born on January 23, 1940, to William Gamalial and Mary Morgan Callis. Marilyn graduated from Mathews High School and, after graduation, began working in the Mathews Commissioner of Revenue Office alongside her uncle, Bernard L. Morgan, where she worked for 20 years. She was a longtime member of Mathews Baptist Church, where she served in many capacities throughout the years from Vacation Bible School to the Women’s Missionary Union.

Marilyn was predeceased by her parents.

She was survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Archie Owens; daughter, Lisa Phillips; son-in-law, Sean Phillips and granddaughter Reagan Phillips.

To know Marilyn was to love her. Her sweet disposition and kindness to others will not be forgotten. Her greatest accomplishment was her family, which was her pride and joy. Her unwavering faith guided her through the challenges she faced over the last few weeks.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, February 4, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at H. C. Smither Memorial Cemetery, Hudgins, Virginia 23076.
