Marjorie Anne Day Thomas passed peacefully on Saturday, September 14th in Tustin, California. She was 92 years old.
Marjorie "Margie" Day Thomas was born April 13, 1932, in Pomona, California. Her heritage traces back to early America, with Mayflower ancestry on her father's side and Revolutionary War roots from her mother. Proud of being a fourth generation Californian with pioneer ancestors, she spent her formative years in Claremont, California, where she demonstrated early leadership, serving as President of the Girls League at Claremont High School.
For higher education, Margie attended UCLA from 1950 to 1954 where she became a member of Alpha XI Delta sorority. During her time at UCLA, she was part of a winning vocal quartet that performed at the renowned Hollywood Bowl. She earned her bachelor's degree in fine art and a teaching credential. She met the love of her life, John Robert Thomas, on a blind date while both were attending UCLA.
Margie and John were married January 30, 1955. They had two daughters: Ellen (born in 1957) and Marianne (born in 1958). The family lived in several cities across California, including Santa Monica, Alhambra, San Gabriel, San Marino and Corona Del Mar, where they spent many years. Margie was always active in various philanthropies. As a young woman, she was President of the Alhambra Women's Club, then later in Corona Del Mar she served on the Cinderella Guild of the Children's Hospital of Orange County, The LA Philharmonic Philanthropic group and was the President of Women's Golf at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach.
Following John's retirement, Margie and John relocated to Scottsdale, Arizona and later to Prescott, Arizona where they enjoyed golfing and residing at the Hassayampa Country Club. During their time in Prescott, Margie became involved in PEO and served in several roles, including Chapter President.
After John's passing in 2021, Margie resided at Clearwater Living-North Tustin, California.
Margie and John shared 67 years of marriage, during which they enjoyed travel, friendships and time with their family, which grew to include two sons-in-laws, three granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren. John passed away in 2021, leaving behind a legacy of love and commitment.
Marjorie Day Thomas is survived by her daughters, Ellen (Lyle) Reibling and Marianne (Kurt) Solem, granddaughters Whitney Solem Ampolsky (Matthew), Melissa Solem Turan (Aybars), Brynne Solem Sininger (Steven) and eight great-grandchildren.
