Jeffrey L. Hendershott, 65
Jeffrey L. Hendershott, 65, passed away unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, February 1st 2025 at OSU East Hospital surrounded by his family.
He was born on October 24th 1959 in Loudonville, Ohio to Jack Hendershott and Janice (Purdy) Welsh.
Jeffery married Tammy Kinnan on March 5th, 1994 at First United Presbyterian Church in Mansfield, Ohio.
Jeff was an avid learner graduating from Ashland High School in 1978 and received his Bachelor's degree in Education from Ashland University in 1986 and later received his Masters in Arts in History from Akron University. Jeffery was an educator working at the Ashland county Juvenile Detention Center for many years and later retired as an educator from the Mansfield Correctional Institution after 16 years of service.
One of his favorite periods in history was the Civil War. Jeffrey would often be found with his family and friends participating in Civil War reenactments with the 64th OVVI along with the Ashland Infantry Artillery where he enjoyed assisting the group with setting off canons to showcase historical events. He participated as an extra in the movie Gettysburg which he was honored to play a role that represented such an important time in history.
Jeff was a huge football fan supporting the Minnesota Vikings since he was a child and you would often see him sporting his Vikings gear year round. Aside from the Minnesota Vikings his love for sports extended to the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Guardians.
One of his favorite hobbies was playing the guitar inspired by his favorite band Kansas and favorite guitar player, Steve Morse. Jeff loved any opportunity to pull his guitar out and play for family and friends and was often found mastering his skills in his free time. He loved all Kansas songs some of his favorites were "Carry On My Wayward Son" and "Dust in the Wind" which he would sing with his daughters and grandchildren.
Above all else, Jeffrey was a simple man who loved to spend time with his family and friends. Some of his most cherished memories were spent talking on the phone for hours with his mother, a sibling, daughter or friend where his loving and patient wife Tammy would listen to his hysterical laughs for hours. For special celebrations Jeff and his wife Tammy would relax in the quaint setting of a cabin in the woods of Berlin, Ohio. Though not seeking the spotlight himself, you always knew where Jeff's heart was because he always expressed how proud he was of his wife, daughters, siblings, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and all of their accomplishments and accolades.
He and Tammy have attended Trinity Lutheran Church of Ashland over the years as they raised their family.
Jeffrey is survived by his wife, Tammy, their daughters; Jessica (Michael) McQuillen, Jeanette "Nikki" (Kevin) McBride, Jenna (Chris) Hendershott, and Johannah (Tim) Weber; grandchildren; Graham, Bella, Kristian, Owen, Ryker, Oliver, and Vinny; his siblings Joseph (Dardi) Hendershott, Jennifer (Brian) Kinn, Jonathon Hendershott and Justin (Hillary) Hendershott; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jack Hendershott, step-mother Sue Hendershott and step-father Jim Welsh.
A Visitation will be held Thursday, February 6th 2025, from 5-7pm and again at 9am, an hour before the Funeral service begins which will be held Friday, February 7th 2025, at 10am in the Denbow-Gasche funeral home with Pastor Jeff Mesner presiding.
