Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hillcrest Funeral Home - Littlefield on Mar. 18, 2025.
Joann Franklin, 87, of Littlefield passed away Saturday, March 15, 2025 at her home. She was born April 2, 1937 in Walters, Oklahoma to William Wallace Franklin and Mary Coletta (Stapleton) Franklin.
Joann was a resident of Littlefield for 57 years. She was proud of her home and enjoyed spending her time there tending to her garden, taking care of her fruit trees, riding her Kubota picking weeds and feeding them to her pet donkey "Poncho", but most of all she really loved being on her porch under her pergola, sitting on her porch swing. She was a talented seamstress, sewing clothes for her children and the public for many years, and she handcrafted over 5,000 quilts. She gifted all of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren with an heirloom quilt she made. Joann was a collector, and had an extensive and impressive collection of dolls, salt and pepper shakers and Pez dispensers. She loved spending time in thrift stores and at JoAnns Fabric Stores, selecting the perfect yards of material for her next project. She liked going to Littlefield Senior Citizens Center and playing Bingo, and liked watching movies, especially her three favorites, Shawshank Redemption, My Cousin Vinny, and Unstoppable. Joann had a heart of gold and would help anyone, she was a giver of her time and loved to volunteer. She loved her little furbabies "Boss" and "Sister". Above all else, she cherished her family and being a 'Memom' and 'Mammam' to her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Della Marie Collins of San Antonio, Frankie Johnson of Willis, Texas, Darlene Brockman of Littlefield and Denise Stamps of Littlefield; her sons, Roger McQueen of San Antonio, Bobby Nichols of Levelland and Eldon Nichols of Littlefield; 24 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Joyce Surrett of Willis, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by four sons, Alton Jack Nichols, Ricky Joe Nichols, Coy Lee Nichols and Roy Lynn Nichols; four brothers and four sisters. She was also a three time widow, preceded by her husbands Jimmy Bob McQueen, Alton Frank Nichols and Russell Eugene Franklin.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at Joann's favorite spot, underneath her beloved pergola at the home she loved so much (1100 W. Delano Ave.) at 11:00 a.m., Thursday March 20, 2025. Cremation arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.
