Mark Raymond Thresher, 67, of Powell, Ohio went to be with the Lord on October 28, 2024. He was born on December 23, 1956 to the late Norman Raymond and Carol Jean Thresher of Parma, Ohio. Mark is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Deborah Scott Thresher.
After high school, Mark attended Otterbein University where he not only earned a degree in accounting, but he also met the love of his life, Deb. Mark started his career at KPMG Peat Marwick as an accountant and following 18 years, he made the move to Nationwide Insurance where he helped to lead and shape the company for 25 years. When Mark retired from Nationwide he was serving as the Chief Financial Officer, a position he held for 12 years. He was driven, consistent, intelligent and persistent. He poured himself into his work and built a beautiful life for his family. Mark left his legacy not only with his family, but on the community around him, by serving on various local boards and through philanthropy. One organization he was passionate about was COSI where he dedicated 15 years of service, 6 of those years as chairman. Another important board to Mark was that of his alma mater Otterbein University, in which he served for 21 years, and was chairman for 8 of those years. He was most proud when he could give back to the people and organizations that helped shape him along his journey.
Those that know Mark, know just how proud he was of his family. He was quick to share a recent picture or a sports stat or a life update. He loved his grandchildren with every fiber of his being and they adored him. He also loved the game of golf and the memories with friends and family that the sport provided. Mark grew up in the church and as a man of faith he knew the importance of serving God and his community with the gifts that he had been given. Mark served in leadership roles at Powell United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, Mark is also survived by his two daughters Chelsea (Jeremy) Ross of Powell, Ohio and Kaylea (James) Swearingen of Mason, Ohio and his six grandchildren Parker Ross, Weston Ross, Corbin Ross, Caroline Ross, Ryland Ross and John Swearingen. He is also survived by his sister Karen (James) Fanta of Parma, Ohio and brother-in-law Alan (Judi) Scott of Bradford Pennsylvania, as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends who were truly family.
Mark will be remembered as a true gentleman, a loyal friend, a patient mentor, a proud grandfather, a devoted husband, a passionate professional and a dedicated father. Please join the family in celebrating his life and legacy.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 pm on November 1, 2024 at Rutherford Funeral Home at Powell, 450 West Olentangy Street, Powell, Ohio.
A funeral service will be held at Powell United Methodist Church on November 2, 2024 with visitation starting at 9:30 am and the service beginning at 10:30 am.
The burial ceremony will be on November 7, 2024 at McKean Memorial Park in Lewis Run Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donating to either foundations that are established at Otterbein University: "Deborah and Mark Thresher Family Scholarship" or "Mark and Deborah Thresher Fellowship"

I´m sorry to hear about Mark´s passing. Mark was a positive role model in my career. Before I left Nationwide and after, I would email Mark for advice and updates. I was blessed to have known him. I hope God helps his family during this difficult time. Jamie Carey Alamo, CA

I met Mark as a sophomore at Parma Senior High. We were fortunate enough to run on an amazing cross country team together. We had some great times! Mark will be missed by all of us. RIP Mark

Dear Deborah and family, Mark was a classmate of mine at Parma Senior High. He always had smile on his face and a kind word to say about everyone. My deepest sympathies for the loss of your beloved husband, father and grandfather.

Mark was my neighbor growing up in Parma. We haven't seen each other since our early 30s, sad that we lived in different parts of the country and didn't reconnect. RIP my friend. Chuck
