Martin Henry Pomeroy III, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dedicated public servant, passed away on March 11, 2025, at the age of 79, in
Provo, Utah.
Martin's life was a testament of love and service. He touched the lives of all who knew him with his intelligence, leadership, faith, and commitment to improving others' lives. Though known by many for his love of the outdoors, he would prefer to be remembered above all as a family man. His unwavering dedication to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was the true measure of his character.
Born on February 9, 1946, in Tempe, AZ, Martin spent his early years in Southern California, where he graduated from Fullerton High School. He then attended Brigham Young University before embarking on a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Martin served the people of New York City, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and assisting others, including during the 1964-65 World's Fair. He later went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Redlands and a Master of Arts degree in Public Communication from Pepperdine University.
In 1968, Martin married the love of his life, Pamilla Pomeroy (née Call). Together they raised a family and shared 56 years of unwavering devotion. Martin's distinguished career with the Los Angeles Police Department spanned more than three decades, culminating in his appointment as Interim Chief of Police in 2002. His exceptional leadership was marked not only by his intellect and sound decision-making but also by his compassion, integrity, and steadfast commitment to the community and the men and women he led. His selfless service made him beloved and respected by all.
After retiring from the LAPD, Martin and Pamilla moved to Kalispell, Montana, where they embraced the natural beauty of the area and remained active in their LDS Church community. His many Church callings included Sunday school teacher, elders quorum president, youth leader, and bishopric member. Martin cherished the time he spent outdoors with his family and friends. In his final years, he moved to Orem, Utah, to be closer to family.
Martin is survived by his beloved wife, Pamilla; his four children, Andrew, Michelle, Aaron, and Adam; his two daughters-in-law, Fabiola and Amy; his eight grandchildren, Nichelle, Christopher, Joshua, Benjamin, Alexa, Jack, Clara, and August; his two great-grandchildren, Beatrice and Gideon; and his two sisters, Karen Turner and Karla Beckerman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin Jr. and Bethel Pomeroy, and his sister Norma Greene.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 8:30 AM MDT, at the LDS chapel located at 762 E 1200 N, Orem, Utah. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 AM at the same location, with interment immediately thereafter at the Orem Cemetery. The graveside service will begin at approximately 11:30 AM where Martin will be buried with police honors.
Martin's life leaves a powerful legacy. While we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the profound impact he had on all who knew him. His spirit will live on-not only in heaven but also in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those he served. We invite all who knew Martin to share memories and photos on the memorial page, so we can collectively honor and remember this extraordinary man.
