Mary Asmus Obituary

Mary Joanne Asmus, age 101, most recently of Perrysburg, formerly of Pemberville, OH passed away peacefully on August 7, 2024 at Kingston Residence of Perrysburg. She was born on June 23, 1923 in Stamford, CT to Immacolata and Fredrico Mattera. In 1927 her family left CT to move to Woodville, OH. Mary graduated from Woodville High School and furthered her education at Davis Business College. In 1954 she married Marcus Asmus and they celebrated 53 years of marriage before his passing in 2007.
Mary was a full-time wife, mother, gardener and volunteer. When her children were grown, Mary worked in the lab at Hirzel Canning in Pemberville and as a florist at Brigham Flowers in Bowling Green. She enjoyed many hours of creating silk flower arrangements to give away to families through the years and at a food bank in downtown Toledo. Mary was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Genoa, OH was the organizer and charter member of the Country Village Garden Club of Pemberville.
Mary is survived by her children: Mark (Lonna) Asmus of WV, Ann (Joseph) Cajka of Perrysburg, OH, grandchildren, Mark John (Tutsy) Asmus, Allison (Stephen) Sparks, Andrew (Katie) Asmus, David (Maggie) Cajka, Mason Cajka,11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 brothers, Peter Mattera and Pat Florio.
Family and friends will be received 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2024 with funeral services at 11:30 a.m., at the Marsh & Marsteller Funeral Home, 4094 State Route 105, Pemberville, OH. Immediately following the funeral service, a luncheon will be served at the Gathering Place, Pemberville, OH. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials take the form of contributions to a charity of the donors choice.
