Mary Frances Cassell, age 99, of Arbovale, West Virginia passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025. She spent her life on this earth being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
After graduating from Green Bank High School, she married William Delbert Cassell. They spent their lives operating their small farm in the Pine Grove Community while raising their only child, Judith Ann. "Miss Mary" opened up her home and spent countless hours as a wonderful, caring, and loving babysitter for many children. When her own two grandchildren, John Michael and Kristy, were born she devoted her time to watching them until they reached school age. After both grandchildren entered school, she worked at the Boyer Motel.
In her later years, Nan, as she was known by her family, was content to stay in her cozy home, crocheting and enjoying the many friends and neighbors who dropped by and visited her.
Mary Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Lora and Wesley Vandevender, her husband of 65 years, William Delbert Cassell, sisters Ruth Pugh, Leona Simmons, Arlene Rexrode, Maxine Harden, brother John Vandevender, son-in-law, Mike Kane, and great-granddaughter Chloe Kane.
Surviving are her daughter, Judith Ann Kane of Green Bank, grandchildren John Michael Kane IV and wife Melissa of Green Bank, Kristy Kane Rhea and husband Matt of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and great grandsons Michael Kane, Cooper Rhea, and Brody Rhea.
Visitation will be on Friday, January 24th at Arbovale Funeral Home from 11:00am to 12:00pm with the service immediately following at noon. Burial will follow the service at Arbovale Cemetery.
