Mary D. Gibbs Obituary

Published by Legacy on Mar. 9, 2025.
FORT WORTH - Mary Ann Dick Gibbs, 84, passed away on February 20, 2025. A memorial service will take place at First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 10 a.m.
Born in Syracuse, New York, on September 16, 1940, to Dr. Herman Justus Dick and Mary Agnes Gannon Dick, Mary Ann was the eldest of four brothers and one sister. Her father was a pathologist in the U.S. Army, so the family moved often during WWII and settled in Syracuse, after the war.
Mary Ann graduated from high school in Syracuse, attended Manhattanville for her BA, and earned a Master's in History from Marquette University. Mary Ann became a teacher at The Sacred Heart School in Miami, FL, after graduation.
She met the love of her life, Herb Gibbs, in Sheboygan, WI, where her family had moved while she was in college, during a visit to her family. They married on November 22, 1966, and lived in Sheboygan, where their sons Trey and Charlie were born. The family moved briefly to Miami, FL, where Maggie was born.
After moving to Fort Worth in 1972, Mary Ann dedicated herself to raising her children, and her life revolved around swim team practices, other sporting events, Broads Investments Club, The Sale at FWCD, and a late career at Talbots. During this time, she met many dear, lifelong friends, including her best friend of over 50 years, Diane Fried. Mary Ann was an exquisitely talented needle pointer and knitter. The greatest joy of her life was her grandchildren, Alex, Nola, and Annika, who lovingly called her Grammie G.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband Herb, her sister Dixie Gries, and her parents, Herman and Mary Agnes Dick.
She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Trey Gibbs (Madelyn), Charlie Gibbs (Maren), Maggie Gibbs; her nephew Robert Gannon Gries (Susie) and his three children, Luis, Marielle, and Fritz; as well as her four brothers and their spouses: Dr. Edward Dick (Gilda), Dr. Herman Dick (Sara), Gannon Dick, and Lawrence Dick (Lucia), 13 nieces and nephews; and three grandchildren, Alex, Nola, and Annika Gibbs.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Holy Family Catholic Church or Fort Worth Country Day School.
