Mary "Tootsie" Jordan of Charlotte NC, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, left this earthly home on January 4, 2025. Tootsie was born in Isabella, TN on August 7, 1936, the seventh child of twelve born to the late Earl G and Mary (Holt) York.

Tootsie was predeceased by her siblings Geneva Cash, Richard York, Edwin York, Betty Duvall, Elsie Mae York, Neal "Pete" York, Alvin York and David York.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Jeff and Rhonda Jordan and daughter, Malia Hartsell, her siblings, Peggy Cash, Marcella Shearin and Mack and Pinky York, her grandchildren, Christopher Johns, Jennifer Jordan, and Jessica Jordan, great-grandchildren, Brianna, Hayden, Lily, Jordan, Nova, Feenix, Jayce and Lydia and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

After moving to Charlotte NC in the 1960's, Tootsie worked for A&P Bakery before it became Earth Grains Bakery as a machine operator. She retired in 1997 with over 30 years of service. She was a tireless worker, rarely missing a days work or taking a day of vacation.

Tootsie as she was known to family and friends always put the needs of her family and others above herself. All the kids in the family always had an amazing Christmas and Birthday if she had anything to do with it. She loved babies and caring for children. She babysat for many relatives and friends helping raise their children, often spoiling them in the process. She would tell us all, no matter the temperature babies should always have on a onesies (an undershirt) and socks. Cornstarch is the best thing for diaper rash she would say. She loved to talk and never met a stranger. While talking to her sisters, brothers and friends they would often only hang up when one fell asleep or the phone battery would die. You also never left her home hungry. She would always offer something to eat like a grilled cheese or a drink. Little Debbie cakes, Mountain Dew and Lance Crackers were a must have.

Since retiring, she enjoyed watching CBS daytime shows, The Price is Right, the Young & the Restless as well as The Bold and the Beautiful otherwise known as her "stories". She enjoyed putting puzzles together until her eyesight made it difficult.

Those left here to share memories will miss her smile, her bag of snacks, her stubbornness, her hand gestures and her love she gave each one of us.

Visitation will be January 12, 2025 from 12:00- 2:00pm at Cochran- McDaniel Funeral Home, McCaysville Chapel with the funeral Service to follow at 2:00pm with the Rev. Don Padgett officiating.  Interment will be at 3:00pm at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Murphy, NC.

In lieu of flowers we ask you to make a donation to your favorite children's charity in Tootsie's honor.
