Melvin Bowman Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 15, 2025.
Melvin George Bowman was born on June 30, 1977, in Slayton, to George and Marilyn (Janssen) Bowman. He attended school in Slayton for eleven years before graduating from Marshall High School. Melvin worked at Schwan's for ten years, first as a machine operator, then later as a checker.
After his diagnosis of muscular dystrophy, Melvin quit working. He was proud to own a home in Wood Lake, and for the last two years, his parents cared for him in their home in Marshall.
Melvin was a laid back person who didn't let anything upset him. Even after his condition worsened, he accepted the changes in his life with grace. He enjoyed using his grandpa's motorized chair, speeding around the house and grocery stores. He also liked going out to eat with his family. Melvin spent time outside every day on his smoke break, even when the weather was not cooperating. He was a wrestling and Minnesota Vikings fan. In his younger years, Melvin enjoyed ice fishing, hunting, and canoeing in the boundary waters with friends.
Melvin died on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at his residence in Marshall. He is survived by his parents George and Marilyn Bowman; sisters Marcia (Doug) Friskey and Melissa (Linn) Hinders; nieces Rachel Jane, Rebecca Ann, and Robyn Elaine; special aunt Jane Balch; as well as other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Melvin and Violet Bowman, John and Elaine Janssen, and Earl and Dorothy DeVine.
