Michael Alan Johnson, 71 years old, passed away to be with the Lord on April 3, 2025 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was the loving husband of Jessie Johnson. They shared 46 years of marriage together.
Born in Long Beach, California, he was the son of Gerald Walter Johnson and Mechele Bourbonnais Johnson. He attended St. John Bosco High School in Bellflower, California and then went on to receive a full ROTC scholarship to the University of Southern California. While there he excelled in academics and in rowing crew and won the Top Student Athlete of the year Award. After graduation he went on to become a Naval Flight Officer in the US Navy. He met the love of his life, Jessie, while in Flight School in Pensacola, Florida and they were married less than a year later. He flew the A-3 Skywarrior while stationed out of Guam and then transitioned into flying the A-6 Intruder off of several aircraft carriers and with several squadrons. He was a highly respected Naval Flight Officer and absolutely loved what he did and the people he was with.
After retiring from the Navy after 22 years of service, he fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a Deacon in the Catholic Church. A few years later he graduated from St. Mary's of the Woods College in Indiana and earned a Masters degree in Pastoral Studies.
He was a Permanent Deacon for the Catholic Church of St. Mark in Virginia Beach for 22 years, serving as Director of Religious Formation and Pastoral Associate along with Director of RCIA and numerous volunteer positions. He touched many lives and was loved by many.
Besides the Lord, his biggest joy in life was being a soulmate and partner to his wife Jessie and a loving father to his two sons Sean and Ian and daughter in love Sandy who will miss him dearly.
He will be remembered for his faithfulness and love for God, family and friends and of course, his amazing smile.
He is survived by his wife Jessie Johnson, children Sean Johnson, Ian Johnson and daughter in love Sandy Johnson, his sisters, Linda Byse and Cheryl Johnson and brother Victor Johnson, also nephews Brian Byse, Daniel Green, Lucas Green and Jacob Green and aunts, cousins and extended family members. He is predeceased by his father Gerald Johnson and mother Mechele Johnson and his grandparents.
