Michael Larry Payne, age 68, passed away peacefully into the arms of our Lord on Saturday, October 26, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Michael was born on May 31, 1956, in Pensacola, FL, to Rufus and Dorothy Payne. He was a lifelong resident of
Milton, FL. Michael graduated from Milton High School and married his wife, Brenda, in 1974. After completing high school, he dedicated four years to the United States Army and later concluded a 31-year career with the maintenance department at the Santa Rosa County School District, where he retired as a Plumber II.
Michael was renowned for his limitless collection of funny stories. His laughter resonated as he reflected on his mischievous adventures he endured over the years. He had a heart full of love for his family and took every opportunity to proudly boast about his daughters and grandchildren. He loved talking about some of his favorite pastimes: hunting and fishing. Whether he was recounting a fishing trip gone hilariously wrong or stories about when he served in the United States Army. His tales were filled with warmth and humor, making everyone around him feel cherished and entertained.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Rufus (Dorthy) Payne, brother Tony Payne.
Michael is survived by his wife of 50 years, Brenda Kelley Payne; two daughters, Christy (John) Baggett and Melissa (Daniel) Baxley; granddaughters, Taylor Baggett and Taegan Baggett; grandsons, Carson Baxley, Chandler Baxley, and Caden Baxley; brothers, Dennis (Violet) Payne and Mark (Venita) Payne; and many nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Lewis Funeral Home Milton Chapel, 6405 Highway 90 W
Milton, Fl 32570, with visitation from 12:00-2:00pm and service at 2:00pm. Interment will immediately follow at Springhill Assembly of God Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Matt Baker, Chris Payne, Michael Payne, Brock Reeves, Aidan Moore, Robbie Davis.
Honorary Pallbearers are Danny Davis, Edward Bardin, Leonard Evers II, Leonard Evers III, Eric Evers, Gary Hardy, Brian Prescott, Jamie Shelby, Johnny Baggett
