Opelousas- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Michael Smith on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Leonville. Fr. Darren Eldridge will celebrate the mass. Rite of Committal will follow in Bellevue Memorial Park.
Michael, age 55, passed away on December 16, 2024, in Leonville, Louisiana. He was a beloved figure in his community, known for his passion for cooking, his love for spending time with family, and love for fishing and listening to music.
Michael's life was marked by a deep commitment to his loved ones and his passions. His warm spirit and kind heart left an indelible mark on those who had the privilege of knowing him. Whether he was preparing a meal for family gatherings or enjoying a quiet fishing day, Michael approached every moment with joy and enthusiasm. His love for music often provided the soundtrack to many cherished memories shared with family and friends.
Michael is survived by his wife of 34 years, Mechelle Meche Smith of Leonville; son, Brandon Michael Smith and his wife Brooke of Port Barre; daughter, Bailey Michelle Smith and her fiancé Patrick Clardy of Leonville; sister, Diane Blood of Mamou; grandchildren, Ivy Joy Smith and Levi Dale Smith. His in-laws, Chris Meche & wife Darlene of Vidrine, Shelly Hearne & husband Scott of Ruston, Cindy Harrell & her companion John Dameron of Port Allen.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Willie Mae Smith; brother, Glenn Smith; sister, Ann Soileau; and his in-laws, Dale and Merlyne Meche.
Though Michael has departed from our sight, the echoes of his laughter, the scents of his cooking, and the gentle tunes of his favorite songs will continue to reverberate in our hearts and homes. He was a treasured soul whose spirit will forever illuminate our paths as we hold onto the legacy of love he leaves behind. As we bid farewell to Michael, let us carry forward his vibrant love for life, cherishing each shared laughter and quiet moment, and honoring him by living fully, just as he did.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Smith, Patrick Clardy, Chris Meche, Scott Hearne, John Dameron, & Simon Lagrange.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home chapel in Opelousas. A rosary will be recited by Deacon Jerome Collins on Friday at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
