Mildred Hall Murphy Obituary

Mildred "Millie" Louise Hall Murphy was welcomed to her heavenly home on April 14, 2024. She was born in Moore County, on November 10, 1933, to the late Robert H. Hall and Beatrice Ervin Hall. Her maternal grandparents were Fannie Edens Ervin and Samuel Prater Ervin; paternal grandparents were Rachel Cole Hall and Elijah Hall. Her great-grandparents were Samuel Green Ervin, Martha Gray Ervin, Isaac H. Hall and Nancie Osborn Cole Hall. Millie's formal education began in Belvidere, then went on to graduate high school in Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee. She accepted employment with DOD in Arlington, Virginia where she met her husband, Frank (Francis Xavier) Murphy. This union lasted over 57 years until Frank preceded Millie in death in 2010. They lived in Washington, D.C. and Virginia before retiring in Tennessee in 1981. In addition to the family listed above, Millie is preceded in death by her siblings Bernice Gatlin Bates, Lemual, and Robert Earl Hall. Millie was a lifelong Cumberland Presbyterian. She enjoyed working with flowers, hiking, sewing, bowling, and square dancing. She helped others through volunteering with Meals on Wheels, Koinonia, Contact Lifeline, and Good Samaritan. She continued helping as a whole-body donor to Vanderbilt Medical Center. Millie is survived by daughter, Sharon Murphy Dodd of Oklahoma; son, Robert Murphy of Virginia; two grandsons, Morgan (Nicole) Dodd and Daniel Murphy; one great-grandson, Rafferty Dodd; great-granddaughter, Clementine Louise Dodd; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 2:00pm at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
