Monica Nickels Obituary

Monica Lynn Nickels was born on December 26th, 1973, in Lynwood, California, to Raymond and Donna (Mercer) Wilson and passed away on July 13th, 2024, at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Monica was born in California but resided in several different states including Kansas, Arizona, and Nebraska. She was united in marriage to Craig Nickels on November 7th, 1998, in Henderson, Nebraska and they raised two wonderful children: Mitchell and Clay.
Since childhood, Monica was a style enthusiast. She had a passion for hair, make-up, clothes, decorating, you name it. Monica attended cosmetology school and worked at various salons before opening her own which she named Studio 5, conveniently located one block from her home. Owning her own salon was her dream, but she had to reduce her hours to part-time due to ongoing health issues and eventually was forced to stop working completely.
As her parents got older and needed additional help, they moved in with her and Craig. She adored them and took pride in caring for them. Monica also took pride in caring for Craig and her boys. Craig, Mitchell, and Clay were the shining lights in her life. She loved them fiercely and was very proud of them! When she became a grandma, "Nona" to Rowan, Ivy, and Ember, she was beaming with happiness. She particularly enjoyed bragging about them to everyone. Along with loving her family so very much, Monica was an avid animal lover as well.
Not only was Monica a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, and mother, she was a great friend to many. There was not one person in her life who didn't benefit from her gracious generosity. Monica is loved and will be missed by all.
Monica is survived by her husband, Craig Nickels (Pleasant Dale, Ne); children: Mitchell (Kaitlyn) Tucker (Kathleen, GA), Clay (Tori) Nickels (Milford, Ne); 3 - grandchildren: Rowan, Ivy, and Ember, all at home; brother, Danny (Matthea) Schnegelsiepen (Sylva, NC); Sisters: Tanya (Robert) Chesnut (Topeka, KS); Trisha (Joey) Moulds (Meridian, MS); Father: Raymond Wilson (Pleasant Dale, Ne). She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Donna Wilson, and sister, Annette Meager.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at the East Fairview Fellowship Hall in rural Milford, NE. Lunch will be served during this time.
Memorials will be given to the family for a future designation.
