Nancy Anne Gross, 82, of Watch Hill, Rhode Island, Passed Away on February 8th 2025.
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Nancy Morris Gross, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 8th, 2025, at her beloved home in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, surrounded by family. She was 82 years old.
Born March 18th, 1942, in St Louis, Missouri, Nancy grew up in suburban St Louis (Webster Groves, Missouri) and Orange, Texas. She attended the Baldwin School in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania (suburban Philadelphia) as a boarding student. She graduated from Baldwin in 1960 and continued on to the Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas, Texas, where she graduated in 1964 with degrees in History and German language. While at SMU Nancy was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.
After university, Nancy moved to New York City where she met her husband Paul Thomas Gross Jr. (Tom) who she married in 1966 in Orange, Texas. In 1968 Nancy and Tom built their home in Watch Hill, Rhode Island, where they raised their four children. From 1971 to 1975, while keeping their house in Watch Hill, Nancy and Tom moved their young family to Smuggler's Notch, Vermont, while Tom taught at the University of Vermont (UVM). They returned to Watch Hill in 1975.
Nancy and Tom founded and ran the Westerly School of Business between 1977 and 1984. Nancy then joined the General Dynamics Electric Boat Division in Groton, Connecticut, as a Senior Technical Writer/Editor in the Technical Publications division. Nancy retired from Electric Boat in 1998.
In 1988, Nancy's recurring health problems were diagnosed as Multiple Sclerosis. Fortunately it proved to be a mild case, and she suffered no cognitive problems and required no walking aids until 2000, well after she retired.
After retirement Nancy and Tom helped with the care of their grandson, Thomas, for 7 years as their daughter, Meg, began and then completed her medical training. After Tom's death in 2012 Nancy's daughter and granddaughters moved into the Watch Hill house with her. Nancy always said she was the luckiest senior she knew to have their company.
Nancy is survived by her four children Margaret, Kathryn, Paul and Elizabeth and her nine grandchildren; Thomas, Eleanor, Helen, Jackie, Addison, Grason, Liam, Alden & Augustine who will forever remember their loving grandmother, Gop.
Gifts in honor of Nancy can be made to the National MS Society www.nationalmssociety.org
