Norma J. Welch, age 84, of Alma passed away Monday, February 17, 2025, at Schnepp Senior Care and Rehab Center in St. Louis. She was born June 29, 1940, in Alma. She married Raymond Welch on June 28, 1957, in Shepherd.
She was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Norma loved making all kinds of crafts, especially sewing, quilting, needlepointing, crocheting and making dolls. A favorite family tradition was receiving her handmade pajama shorts for Christmas. She also left each family member with a handmade quilt to cherish her memory.
Norma is survived by her husband of 67 years, Raymond; her daughters Penny (Kim) O'Boyle, Pamela (Zane) Hubbard, Patricia (Rodney) LaPaugh, Peggy (Doug) Schuette; grandchildren Carrie (Brian) Juhas, Isreal (Shari) O'Boyle, Wendy (Kurt) Schneider, Shawn (Allison) Wing, Jennifer Wing, Matthew (Katie) Wing, Desaray (Rick) Brookins, Clark (Tabitha) Hubbard, Jessica (Eric) Lemert, Chelsey (Glenn) McGrath, Kyle (Amber) VanDePerre, Michael (Kara) Schuette, Garrett VanDePerre, Ashley Schuette; 28 great grandchildren; brother-in-law Allen Welch; and sisters-in-law Barbara Schick, Judy Shaw, Jeanne Welch, Adele (Patrick) Szedlack, Noreen Welch.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mable (Sanderson) Bailey; step-father Sidney McLouth; son-in-law Bryan Wing; great-grandson Jarrett Wing; brothers Bernard Schick, Robert Schick, Thomas Shaw; brothers-in-law Paul Welch, Larry Welch, Darwin Welch, Leo Oberlin, Randy Keeney; and sister-in-law Nellie Schick.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 11 am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Pastor John Eich officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, from 5 to 7 pm at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home, Alma and again on Friday from 10 am until the time of services at the church. Interment will be held at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Alma. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Gratiot County Commission on Aging.
