Patrick Lengel
Moore, SC
It is with deep sadness and profound joy that the family of Patrick James Lengel announces his passing on November 28, 2024, at the age of 47, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. While we mourn the loss of a cherished husband, father, son, and friend, we also celebrate the extraordinary life he lived-a life marked by purpose, laughter, love, and a passionate commitment to others.
Patrick is survived by his beloved wife, Jill Louise Christy; his son, Mack (Sarah); daughters, Elyse (Nate Hendricks), Noelle, and Grace; his parents, Frank and Beth; his brother, Matthew (Kate); and a host of precious uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and the many "adopted friends" he considered family throughout his life.
Patrick was born on March 31, 1977, at Camp LeJeune Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, North Carolina. As the child of a Marine Corps family, he lived in various locations across the country before the family settled in the Midlands of South Carolina. He graduated from Brookland-Cayce High School in Cayce, and attended Clemson University before earning a degree in business from the University of South Carolina. Patrick later received his Masters of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, where his deep passion for ministry took root. It was also at Southeastern where he met Jill, the love of his life, who was pursuing her M.Div. They built a life together, filled with faithful and joyful service.
Over the years, Patrick served in a variety of bi-vocational roles in ministry and business across South Carolina, North Carolina, and Delaware. Wherever he went, he touched countless lives with his faith, energy, and genuine care. Patrick was known for his boundless enthusiasm, passion for life, and his signature quirky sense of humor. His wide range of hobbies and interests reflected his adventurous spirit, including flying airplanes, skydiving, hunting, fishing, and exploring the world of technology and investing.
Patrick was a natural teacher who shared his knowledge and love of learning in both the church and the business world. Above all, his heart was devoted to his family. He cherished every moment spent with them, and his deep love for Jill and the children was the central foundation of his life.
A joyful spirit and an ever-present smile made Patrick always ready with a word of encouragement, a helping hand, or a compassionate ear. He believed wholeheartedly that service to others was the highest calling in life, and he embodied this commitment in every aspect of his being. Those who knew Patrick will forever remember him as a man who gave freely of his time, his talents, and his treasure, asking nothing in return.
In his final act of love, Patrick chose to donate his organs, offering the gift of life to others in desperate need. In doing so, he demonstrated sacrificial love that modeled the words of Jesus: "Greater love has no man than this: to lay down his life for those around him." (John 15:13).
Although Patrick's physical presence will be deeply missed, we find comfort in knowing that his love, faith, and legacy will continue to touch lives-both here on earth and, undoubtedly, from heaven. His kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith will never be forgotten.
A memorial service to honor Patrick's life will be held on November 30, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Abner Creek Baptist Church in Greer, South Carolina. Burial arrangements will be announced at a later date.
May Patrick rest in the eternal peace and love of Jesus Christ.
