Patrick Paul McBride, 68, of Pace, FL passed away on Monday, September 2nd, 2024, at 3:33am.
Pat was born in County Westmeath, Ireland in 1955. He lived in a Catholic orphanage until age 5, when he was adopted to the United States by Frank and Helen McBride. He grew up in Rocky Mount, NC along with his siblings: Kevin, Brian, and Maureen. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and received an associate's degree from the University of West Florida. He met the love of his life, Jessica Hale, while residing in Pensacola, FL and married her on February 20, 1982. Pat worked in the finance industry for most of his career.
Pat (or Pops, as a lot of people know him) never met a stranger. He was always the life of the party, making everyone laugh with his off-color jokes, silly dancing, and outlandish stories. During football season, you could always find him cheering on (or yelling at) FSU and New Orleans Saints games. He also enjoyed staying active by playing racquetball, swimming, going to the gym, and "working" out in his yard. He also enjoyed a good game of pool and was part of the Pool League at Oops Alley. Pat and his family celebrated St. Patrick's Day every year as his "2nd birthday" as he loved to embrace his Irish heritage. While Pat loved all of his family and friends unconditionally, his heart belonged to his grandkids, who gave him the title of Pop Pop.
Pat was a fighter. His last 4-5 years were spent fighting for his health and overcoming some of the more rare and unexpected hurdles. His spirit never wavered, and he faced every complication head on with a positive outlook. He strived to maintain his strength and good health by staying as active as he could. In 2016, at the age of 60, he began his Martial Arts journey. Pat went on to achieve a Black Belt in Krav Maga in 2017, and a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo in 2020 at Martial Arts America. He was passionate and proud of the accomplishments he made in his Martial Arts, and appreciated all his instructors and peers who helped him achieve his goals.
Patrick is preceded in death by his brother, Kevin, and his parents, Frank McBride and Helen Donovan.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Jessica McBride, of Pace, FL; his siblings, Brian McBride and Maureen McBride; his children, Kristin Knoth (spouse, Jake), Sara McBride (spouse, Drew), and Ryan McBride (spouse, Nidya); his grandchildren, Jesse, Maci, Heidi, and Elijah.
A celebration of life will be held at Pat's daughter's house on Saturday, September 14 th from 12pm to 3pm at 3632 Berrypatch Lane, Pace, FL 32571. Pat's wishes were to have a gathering of his friends and family to celebrate his life and share memories instead of a formal funeral service. Guests may stop by to visit, or feel free to stay for the duration of the event.
The family wishes to thank Pat's transplant team in UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL, and USA in Mobile, AL; Pat's home healthcare nurses Kim and Josh who helped with his care; and the nurses in the VITAS healthcare hospice unit for the love and care they provided to Pat and his daughters.
The family requests memorial donations may be in Patrick's name to the Disabled American Veterans (dav.org) or the American Liver Foundation (liverfoundation.org).
