Paulo Afenoa Faamuli Jr., age 45, passed away on October 4, 2025, in
Anchorage, Alaska. Born on September 10, 1980, at Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska, Paulo lived a life marked by hard work, deep loyalty to his family and friends, and an unmistakable sense of humor that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
From a young age, Paulo embraced the value of labor and dedication. Over the years, he held various hands-on jobs that reflected his strong work ethic and commitment to doing things right. He worked for FedEx and as a stocker at Sam's Club before joining the Alaska Railroad, where his efforts were recognized with the prestigious Silver Spike Award. Most recently, he found fulfillment working in maintenance at the Municipality of Anchorage bus depot-a role he genuinely enjoyed.
Paulo was known for his fun-loving spirit and compassionate heart. Though he carried himself with a tough exterior, those close to him knew he was full of warmth and emotion-a quality that earned him the affectionate nickname "Twinkie." He had a natural ability to bring laughter into any room and was always ready with a joke or a helping hand. Whether it was supporting his children through their endeavors or standing up for what he believed was right, Paulo lived with conviction and kindness.
He found joy in simple pleasures: going for long drives through Alaska's scenic roads, hiking its rugged trails, riding his motorcycle with the wind at his back, or spending quiet moments listening to old music while cleaning-sometimes even breaking into song or dance when no one expected it. He also enjoyed shooting sports and playing Call of Duty during downtime. Above all else, Paulo cherished time spent with his children and close friends John Cusack, Sean Harry, and Esau Fualema.
A man of faith who believed in God and grew up Baptist-even if church attendance wasn't always regular-Paulo carried spiritual values that guided his actions throughout life.
He is lovingly remembered by his father Paulo Faamuli Sr.; stepfather Howard Shanks; sister Laura Faamuli; half-brothers Trevor Faamuli, Albert Kornegay Jr., and Joshua Faamuli; stepbrother James Shanks; stepsister Tiffany Knutson; niece Tadeija Harry; daughters Yesenia Xiong (his oldest), Levainia Faamuli (his favorite), Alaska Afenoa (his youngest); son Leviticus Faamuli (his only son); and the Mavaega family-his in-laws. He was preceded in death by his mother Wanda Shanks.
A memorial service celebrating Paulo's life was held in
Anchorage, Alaska.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire acts of kindness and strength. A Memorial Service will be held on October 24, 2025, at 01:00 PM at Heritage Legacy Funeral 440 E Klatt Rd.
