Phyllis Witt Obituary

Phyllis Clare Witt, 91, passed away at her home in Hudson, Ohio on April 8, 2024. Phyllis was born in Peabody, Massachusetts on August 19, 1932, to George and Grace (Dunn) Fellows. Phyllis graduated with honors from Peabody High School in 1950 where she twirled the baton as a Majorette and won Honorable Mention for the George Peabody Medal. Upon graduation, Phyllis worked on Beacon Hill and eventually met her future husband, Bill Witt, at the Park Street Church in Boston. Bill and Phyllis married at the First Congregational Church in Peabody, MA on June 19, 1954, and then moved to Long Beach, CA. During their 67 years together, they moved over 20 times, living in states such as CA, KS, KY, MA, MI, NY, PA, TN, as well as living for five years in England. The family returned from England to the USA in 1976, first to Pennsylvania and then finally to Hudson, Ohio in 1984.
While living in Hudson, in addition to continuing to raise her family, Phyllis was employed as one of the original preschool teachers at the First Congregational Church of Hudson. Phyllis taught for many years and enjoyed being an integral part of children's lives.
As an active member of the church, Phyllis also served on numerous committees such as Christian Unity Prayer Service (CUPS), LIFT (Ladies in Fellowship Together), WOW (Women on Wednesday), and Feeling Young Inside (FYI). Phyllis and Bill also participated in the Stephen Ministry program and frequently volunteered their time and efforts for a variety of causes.
In 2015 Phyllis and Bill moved to Laurel Lake Retirement Community in Hudson where they remained engaged in their church and enjoyed participating in many of the community's groups and social activities such as book clubs, concerts, swimming and of course Bingo!
Some of Phyllis' interests included reading, travel throughout the country and the world, collecting mementos from her travels (hedgehogs and miniature houses), decorating for every holiday, hosting teas for friends, visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and learning about anything British!
Phyllis and Bill were married for 67 wonderful years, until Bill passed away in August 2021.
Phyllis is survived by her seven children: Bill of Brixham, England, Jeffrey (Sarah) of Raleigh, NC, Andy and Greg both of Bethlehem, PA., Beth (Tim) Budd of Ellesmere Port, England, Christina (Tony) Cox of Coeur d'Alene, ID and Heather (Nathan Greicius) of Orlando, FL.
Grandchildren; Nissa (Iain) Davies, Silver Spring, MD; Clare and Will of Raleigh, NC; Emma and Colin of Bethlehem, PA, Owen, Isaac, Sam and Austin Budd of Ellesmere Port, England, and Zoe and Turner Cox of Coeur d'Alene, ID.
Great grandchildren; Jace and Dollisiana Witt of Bethlehem, PA, and Jake and Harrison Budd of Ellesmere Port, England.
She is also survived by her brother Robert Trask Fellows, Sr. of Middleton, MA, her nephew, Robert Trask Fellows, Jr. of Middleton, MA, and her nephew, Gage Fellows of Golden, CO and niece Carisa (Fellows) Gill of Highlands Ranch, CO.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her brother George Fellows Jr. of Golden, CO.
The family will hold a public memorial service at the First Congregational Church of Hudson, 47 Aurora St, Hudson, OH 44236 on July 20, 2024, at 1pm.
