R.D. Harman Obituary

Boyd Harman, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 29. He was born in Oneona, NY. The Harman's family home was in Fort Plain, NY where he attended a one room schoolhouse. His family sent him to the Phillips Exeter Academy, graduating in 1958. He graduated from Hamilton College in three years with Math and French majors. He took a summer class at the Sorbonne and interned in U.S. bank in Paris, later returning to the United States for his Master's Degree in Business at Carnegie Mellon.

After finishing school in 1963, he began working at Pittsburgh Paint & Glass. In 1968, he went on to accept a financial position with Bell & Howell Company, an up-and-coming Chicago company. He was the finance officer there for 34 years. He was the owner of Boyd Harman Finance Company in Gloversville, NY. He married Janis Lindgren in 1975, and the newlyweds were in the UK for Bell & Howell during the Bi-centennial in America. Boyd later returned to the UK for another financial assignment in 1978. His love of business led him to employment at two international banks: Australian West Pac and France's Societe Generale.

He went on to retire at 67, where he volunteered his time at DePaul University, The Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, Glenview Area Historical Society and Valley Lo Sports Club as an officer for 20 years.

His humor history, financial expertise and common sense were loved by all who met him. Boyd & Janis were married for 49 loving years. His gentleman's nature with kindness & caring will be missed.

Burial will be in a family plot in Bainbridge, NY where his grandparents, father, mother and sister remain.

A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 1 to 4 pm at the Valley Lo Club, 2200 Tanglewood Drive, Glenview.
