Raymond Carroll McClure of Snellville, Ga., went to his heavenly home on June 29, 2024, at the age of 81.
He was born to the late William Paul and Nettie Mae McClure of Sylva on May 13, 1943. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Elizabeth Stewart and Alva Jean Keener.
Carroll is survived by his children, Michele (Davey) Lacey of Locust Grove, Ga., Danny McClure of Snellville, Ga.; grandchildren, Brittany McClure and Dustin Lacey; siblings, Pauline Bryson of Asheville, Bill McClure, Tom (Dianne) McClure, Steve McClure (Norma), Jane McClure, Linda (Livingston) Kelley of Sylva, Terry McClure of Loganville, Ga., and Bob (Ruth) McClure of Clyde; also many nieces, nephews, beloved family members and friends.
Carroll was raised in the mountains of North Carolina, along with his siblings, where he attended Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.
He was employed by General Motors as a benefit service representative, where he worked for 28 years, during which time he volunteered many years of service helping with Toys for Tots annual Christmas toy drive as he had a big heart for children.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, including trips to the beach. His hobbies included bowling, golf, NASCAR racing, and he loved Camaros, football and Braves baseball. After retiring, he enjoyed traveling and always looked forward to monthly birthday celebrations and annual family reunions in North Carolina.
Carroll was a Christian man with a big giving heart and was always willing to help others as he did for so many. We cherish the time we had and will miss him dearly.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 11:00AM-12:00PM on Saturday Oct. 26, 2024, at Scotts Creek Baptist Church. A private graveside service will follow at Addie Cemetery in Sylva NC.
