Richard Kersh Jr. 95, of Walkerton passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday November 23, 2024, at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
Richard was born in Leipsic, OH on October 6, 1929, to the late Richard and Velma (Compton) Kersh. He played basketball and ran track for North Liberty High School.
Richard spent his career of 25 years working for and retiring from AM General. On June 23, 1951, Richard married Annabelle Rupel, sharing 71 years of marriage before her passing in 2022.
Richard was a farmer at heart. He could fix anything and was the guy to call to help solve a problem. He was a horse and pony leader for Lincoln Twp 4H. Richard was a longtime member of the Walkerton Volunteer Fire Dept., the North Liberty Mason's lodge and the Walkerton American Legion. He enjoyed spending winters in Florida.
Richard is survived by his daughters; Marianna (Wendell) Kemp of Walkerton, Kathy Kersh of Walkerton, and Beth (Mike) Allsop of North Liberty. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Jeanine, Zebulen, Vanessa, Hillary, Clinton, Scott, Michael Jr, Matthew, and Anna. 18 great-grandchildren also survive.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Annabelle Kersh, and his sisters, Illene Burnham, Elizabeth Heim, and Mary Lou Krusinski and great-grandson Kayden Kemp.
In keeping with his wishes, no services are planned at this time.
The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to Dr. Robert Kolbe and to the Walkerton EMS for their years of care and assistance with Richard.
Palmer Funeral Home- North Liberty Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richard's name may be made to the St. Joseph County 4H.
