It is with deep sadness that we announce that Robert Gordon Clark, Sr., age 89, peacefully departed this life at his home in Iron River, WI on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. Robert was born on December 17, 1934 in St. Croix Falls, WI to Gordon and Loyal (Mellon) Clark. He proudly served in the Marine Corps for 4 years from 1954 to 1958 as an electrical engineer. He was united in marriage to Irene Mae Kemp on October 3, 1959 in Carlson, MN and just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He was one of the few people who still kept multiple pictures of his blushing bride in his wallet.
Robert, or Bob, as all of his family and friends called him, worked as a customer engineer for IBM for 30 years, retiring in 1996. Bob loved to golf, hunt, pick blueberries, cut firewood, listen to polka music, play horseshoes, and watch the Packers. His strong political views were also one of his favorite topics to talk about. He found the most joy in spending time with his family, and cherished every moment spent with them in his later years. He was best known for his wisdom and wit, but most importantly his unconditional support of his family. His legacy will continue to live on through those who were fortunate to know him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Irene; his children, Luann (Mark) Covalt, Kimberly (Mike) Bednarowski, Robert (Kim) Clark, Jr., and Heather (Henry) Anttila; brother, Kenneth (Sheryl) Clark; many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all whom brought him immense pride and joy. His family was his greatest treasure.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph Clark (January 20,2019); his parents, Gordon and Loyal Clark; and his siblings, Donald, Alice (Faye) and Norma Clark.
A celebration of life will be held November 9, 2024 from 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM at the VFW in Iron River, WI ahead of a private service that will be held for family in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warriors in Bob's memory.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Mountain Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ashland and Mellen, WI.
Bob will be deeply missed, but his love and the values he instilled in his family will remain with them always. May he rest in peace.
