Robert Raymond "Bob" Helfers 78, of Sparta, IL; born on October 21, 1946, in Sparta, IL the son of Raymond Henry and Ardel (née, Gremmels) Helfers; passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehabilitation in Pinckneyville, IL.
Robert served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was very proud of the time he served. He was drafted while attending Southern Illinois University before he could finish his 4 years of schooling. He loved watching NASCAR, especially his favorite driver, Jeff Gordon. Bob also enjoyed doing puzzles and Sudoku, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids.
He is survived by his loving wife – Linda (née, Niemeyer) Helfers to whom he married on July 18, 1970 in Sparta, IL; two daughters – Tina Witherby of Sparta, IL and Stacie (spouse, Chris) Johnson of Jackson, MO; three granddaughters – Kristina, Kendra, and Katelyn Witherby; one grandson – Julian (wife, Paige) Johnson; two great-grandsons – Michael Weber and Lincoln Buckner; one great-granddaughter – Liliana Witherby; two sisters – Lois (spouse, Bob) Driver of Arkansas and Marilyn Sue (spouse, Glenn) McGee of Chester, IL.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents and sister – Janet Casten.

Memorial donations may be made to St. John Lutheran Church Food Pantry.
The Visitation will be held at St. John Lutheran Church in Sparta on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Carl Miller officiating. Committal services will be held at Caledonia Cemetery in Sparta, IL.
