Robert William (Bob) Jones, 68, of Camden Wyoming, DE, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and listening to his favorite blues music. Bob fought valiantly through a series of illnesses over the past 10+ years.
Bob was born on July 11, 1956, in Penns Grove, New Jersey, to the late Catherine (Kay) and Bob Jones. Some of his fondest memories from New Jersey were playing at John's Hill with his neighborhood buddies, sisters, and cousins. In 1968, he and his two younger sisters moved to Delaware. Bob graduated from Dover High School in 1974, where he played football (#70) throughout his four years and was captain of the team during his senior year. After high school, he hitchhiked to San Antonio, Texas, where he lived for two years with his dog, Shiner.
Throughout his adult life, Bob was an avid sports lover. He played flag football, basketball, baseball, and softball, and he enjoyed skiing, golfing, and fishing with his best friends. Bob was also a huge music lover, particularly of blues and rock and roll. Later in life, he could often be found wearing a classic rock t-shirt from one of his favorite bands. However, his greatest passion (aside from his family) was for all Philadelphia sports-especially the Eagles (Go BIRDS!).
Bob was a natural-born leader who loved to share his passions with others. He was the head coach of the Delaware Destroyers semi-pro football team for several years. Prior to that, he coached his children's sports teams as they were growing up.
Bob worked at Kent General Hospital for 25 years before retiring to take on another role at Dover Behavioral Health as the Plant Operations Director until he was physically unable to work. At both of these jobs, Bob made lifelong friends with whom he stayed in touch over the years.
Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Pam; his children, Bobby (Annette/Netty), Lindsie (Lindsey), and his loving fur child, Darla. He is also survived by his three granddaughters, Piper, Arianna, and Rylee, who were always a source of strength and joy in his life.
Bob is further survived by his siblings, Susie Dean (Tom) and Nancy Mock; his aunt and uncle, Frank and Judy Broccoli; his sister-in-law, Michele Miller; his father-in-law, Doug Harmon; as well as nephews, nieces, many cousins, and countless cherished friends.
Throughout his life, Bob was known for his great sense of humor, his love of telling jokes and stories, and his passion for living life to the fullest. Those who loved him described him as stubborn to a fault, a character, a hard worker, the coolest dude around, kind, loving, caring, strong, always ready to help family or friends, and a fighter until the end.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held at his home, 73 Moose Lodge Road, Camden, DE on Saturday, October 19th from 12-4. All are welcome to celebrate the life of a man who was loved deeply by all who knew him. The family asks all who attend to wear your favorite classic rock shirt or Philadelphia sports team.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bob's honor to The Kidney Foundation (www.kidney.org)

I´ve know Bob since I was about 8 years old as a lone female baseball player on his minor league team. As the only girl on the team, I was obviously the outlier. He was extremely kind, encouraging, and made me feel comfortable. I had some of my most memorable moments as a kid playing on his team. It was fun!! He made it fun! His kindness has resonated with me throughout my life. As an adult, I ran into him on several occasions at the hospital. It was always nice to see a familiar face and that familiar voice. I´m extremely saddened that he has passed but I hope that his legacy of kindness and community will continue on in others! - Jen (Lefort) Parker
