Robert Terry Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service - Ahoskie Chapel on Sep. 24, 2024.
COLERAIN, NC - Robert Lee Terry, cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2024, in Colerain, North Carolina, at the age of 79. Born on April 29, 1945, in Hertford County, North Carolina, Robert lived a life full of love, dedication, and passion.
Robert, known to many as Pee Wee, dedicated many years of his career to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) as the sign director for numerous counties in North Carolina, a role he held dearly until his retirement. His work was not just a job but a vocation he embraced with enthusiasm and pride. He took great pride in working for the great state of North Carolina.
A man of simple pleasures, Robert's interests were deeply rooted in his love for family and community. He was an avid conversationalist who never met a stranger and genuinely loved everyone he encountered. His love for the outdoors was evident in his joy of fishing, rabbit hunting, and cutting paths through the woods for future hunts. He was a huge supporter of the Hertford County Bears football team, always ensuring he was the first at the stadium on Friday nights as long as he was able. Auctions and thrift stores filled him with delight, offering treasures and memories to cherish.
Robert is preceded in death by his father, Redden Terry; his mother, Eula Outlaw Terry; and his siblings, Naomi Cooke, Mary Della Pierce, Barbara Trail, Ellis Gene Terry, and Blonnie Joyner.
He leaves behind to mourn his loving wife, Lavern; three beloved children, Jack Terry and wife Denise, Jeffrey Terry, and Tina Terry, all of Aulander; three cherished grandchildren, Jacob Terry and girlfriend Windi Bowling, Linwood Harrell, IV, both of Aulander, and Diane Harrell of Winston-Salem; and a precious great-granddaughter, Sadie Terry of Aulander. He is also survived by his brother, Reggie Terry of Aulander, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will fondly remember his warmth and generosity. Robert Lee Terry's legacy of kindness, community spirit, and love will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, and other times at the home.
A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Job Cemetery, Aulander, NC, with Pastor Wallace Phillips officiating.
