Robin Acuff Ellis age 63 of Amber Mountain Road in Bakersville passed away Sunday, October 20, 2024, at the Mission Memorial Hospital in Asheville. Born in Watauga County, she was a daughter of the late James Herbert Acuff Sr. and Billie Powell Acuff.
Robin worked as a chef for most of her life, owning and operating Foxfire Cafe in Mitchell County. She was the acting President of the Yancey/Mitchell NAACP, as well as a member of the Mitchell County Historical Society. She loved cooking, crafting, reading, art, and learning. She fought tirelessly for justice and voting rights. As a loving wife, mother, sister, and friend, Robin was beloved by many.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of forty-four years, Thomas Lee Ellis of the home; daughter, Lenore Ellis; sons, Jefferson Ellis and Denver Ellis; brothers, James Acuff Jr. and Joseph Acuff; and sisters, Carol Harvey and Jennifer DeAlmeida. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sons-in-law.
A celebration of life is being planned for November 2nd, at the Historic Mitchell County Courthouse, 11 N. Mitchell Ave., Bakerville, NC 28705. Visitation for friends and family will begin at 4pm; memorial service begins at 5pm.
Early voting is encouraged, and ends at 3pm on November 2nd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mitchell County Historical Society PO Box 651 Bakersville, NC 28705.
