He later went on to play football for Western New Mexico University in Silver City, New Mexico and moved on in his football career at Texas Tech University under Spike Dykes.

Roland was a member of MLK Seventh-Day Adventist Church where he was a member of the Pathfinders and also a member of the choir.

Roland enjoyed old historic cars, and he was a member of the Nifty Fifties classic car club for many years. Roland was quick to “supe” up an engine. Roland also was a talented artist and musician. He mastered everything that he took ownership of. He never met a stranger. He dreamed big and was still dreaming big and had big ideas all the way to the end. He was always larger than life.

Roland is preceded in death by his father Roland Boswell, his mother Betty Boswell.

Roland leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter Jackie Gaona, his son Justin Mendez, his sisters Jacqueline Brown, Alicia Boswell, and Racquel Evans, his grandchildren Aubrey Gaona and Arie Gaona, his niece Delaney Williams, his nephews Danny Davis, Jr., Trenton Brown, and Sergio Kelly, and a host of other relatives and friends.
