Ronald Lee Schescke, 88 years of age, of Holdrege, Nebraska, formerly of Oxford, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Holdrege Memorial Homes. Ron was born on November 10, 1935, in Huntley, the second of six children born to Earl and Lily Fern (Schroder) Schescke. He received his education from Huntley Public Schools, graduating with the class of 1954.
On September 26, 1962, he was united in marriage to Carol Lee Bohn in Fessenden, North Dakota. The couple was blessed with four children: Kimberly, twin sons, Bruce and Bryan, and Ronda. The family made their home in Oxford where Ron worked as a fertilizer blender operator for 25 years at TriCo which later became Cargill until his retirement in 1998.
Ron was an avid toy tractor collector; having over 1,000 model tractors in his collection. He spent several hours reconditioning his model tractors and even had his own area at the nursing home to continue his hobby. Ron also enjoyed reading the Bible and Western books as well as driving around the countryside, especially the river road looking for deer. He would cruise around with Carol and the kids and later took the grandkids to teach them to drive.
He was a longtime member of the Huntley United Methodist Church. In 1973, Ron began his sobriety journey and was a faithful member of AA for over 50 years.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Schescke; his sister, Ruth Davis; father and mother-in-law, Charles and Edith (Strong) Bohn; three brothers-in-law: Lee Rebman; Gene Davis; and Charles "Chuck" Bohn; and sister-in-law Claudia (Bohn) Bachmier.
Ron leaves to celebrate his life, his wife of 62 years, Carol Schescke of Holdrege; his children: Kimberly Moore of Holdrege; Bruce Schescke (Julie Hill) of Oxford; Bryan Schescke of Holdrege; and Ronda Barker of Holdrege; seven grandchildren: Holly Moore; Michael Moore; Ethan Moore; Benjamin Schescke; Caleb Schescke (Lauren Zuhlke); Dalton Barker; and Devin Barker (Nick Journey); four great-grandchildren: Cedar Schescke; Blakelee, Aaron, and Hudson Journey; his brother, Roger Schescke and his wife, Jean of Larned, Kansas; two sisters: Rolene Charest of Crestview, Florida; and Roberta Rebman of Crestview; sister-in-law, Bonnie Schescke of Hastings, Nebraska; two sisters-in-law: Deborah (Rob) Moll; Mercy Bohn; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
