Ruth Eileen Lasher, a cherished matriarch and a beacon of unwavering love, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, in Smiths Creek, at the age of 92. Born on September 1, 1933, in Port Huron, Ruth was the daughter of the late Herman and Marion Esau and the devoted wife of the late Fred Lasher. Her sisters, Mary Schindler and Jane Esau, also preceded her in death.
Ruth's life was one of dedication and service, marked by her enduring Christian faith. She graduated from Port Huron High School and thereafter embraced her role as a loving homemaker, raising her children with an open heart. In times when she could, Ruth worked part-time, always ensuring her family's needs were met with grace and resilience.
Her spirit of community engagement shone through her extensive volunteer work. Ruth spent over 25 years as a 4-H horse project leader, sharing her passion for equine care and youth development. Her voice became a familiar comfort as the announcer for the little red barn at Goodells County Park, and her commitment to education and athletics was evident in her tireless organization of the annual apple pie fundraiser for the Marysville Sports Boosters. Ruth also held numerous positions within the Eastern Michigan Arabian Horse Association, contributing her expertise and enthusiasm.
Ruth's civic-minded nature led her to serve on the Kimball Township Board of Review and Cemetery Boards, where her thoughtful insights and spirited dedication made a lasting impact on the community she held dear.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and nurturing in her children, Cheryl (Harold) Struble, the late Lynn (Dale) Cash, Amy (Steve) Maxfield, and Ben (Renee) Lasher. Ruth's love story continued through her grandchildren, Becky (Art) Jones, Kate (Sonny) Nair, Josh Gardner, Eli (Kayla) Gardner, Jake Lasher, and Sam Lasher, and her great-grandchildren, Adele and Cale Jones; Gabrielle and Westlee English; and Jude Jolliquer. Each of them will forever carry the lessons of her loving, spirited, and thoughtful nature.
Ruth Eileen Lasher's life was a testament to the power of love and the strength of family bonds. Her unwavering commitment to her loved ones and her community will be remembered as a guiding light for generations to come. Her memory will be cherished, and her spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her. Ruth's journey on this earth has ended, but her story of love, service, and devotion will be told for years to come.
Graveside services and interment will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Caswell Cemetery in Kimball Township.
