Sally McGill Obituary

Sally L. McGill (nee Boyle), age 93 of Aurora passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2024. Born October 29, 1930 in Willard, Ohio to the late Ralph and Mary (nee Wallace) Boyle, Sally was preceded in death by her beloved husband Lynn E. McGill and a sister Norma Carrott. She is survived by her children, Katherine (David) Tiemann, Thomas Kaminski and Scott (Kerry) Kaminski; her step-children, Brian (Susan) McGill, Barbara (Todd) Semroc and Judith (Randy) Srail, as well as twelve grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Sally was very talented musically and theatrically. This led her to Baldwin Wallace College where she graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education degree in 1952. After several years of teaching music in public school, she moved to Aurora, Ohio in 1959 which became her lifelong home. Sally utilized her gifts throughout her many years in Aurora. She was involved in the Aurora Community Theater (ACT) beginning in 1967 when she played the led role in "Little Mary Sunshine". Throughout the following decades, she served in many capacities for the theater including Resident Director, leading lady, and board member. Sally was also a founding member and director for the Songspinners, an Aurora women's choral group who would perform at functions throughout Northeast Ohio.
Her greatest love was her music ministry at the Church in Aurora. Devoted to the church and its music program, as Minister of Music, she directed and oversaw four choral choirs and two hand bell choirs in addition to many special offerings of music throughout the year. Sally set the Guinness World Record for the longest serving choir director (57 years and 320 days) when she retired in 2020. More importantly, for her entire life, she was able to serve her Lord with the beautiful gifts of song and music He had graced her with. No doubt she has already become a joyful member of the Lord's heavenly choir, first soprano, of course!
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at The Church in Aurora, 146 Chillicothe Road, Aurora, Ohio. Sally will be laid to rest privately at Aurora Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Hospice of the Western Reserve, or The Church in Aurora music program.
